TWO DAY UPHOLSTERY COURSE

The techniques taught include:

• Traditional or modern upholstery – the basic skills and appropriate techniques used to upholster a piece of furniture.
• Simple repairs – making good the frame (filling in holes, gluing joints).
• Handling fabrics and materials correctly during cutting, stitching and fixing. This includes use of webbing, hessian, animal hair/coir fibre and wadding.
• Handling tools correctly, including hammers, tack-lifters and ripping chisels.
• Health & Safety guidelines

Please check the suitability of your chosen project when booking.  You will need to bring sufficient fabric to cover your item of furniture.

£200 – This includes all upholstery tuition for the 2 day course and a home-made lunch daily.  Tea, coffee and juice with home-made biscuits and cake are offered throughout the day!

The above cost does not include materials: these are charged separately at the end of the course. 

We keep all materials needed in stock except the main fabric which we ask you to bring with you. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring all your own materials.

This is not included in the cost of the course but we offer a reduced rate of £70 per night for upholstery students with an extra £20 per night if your partner wishes to join you.

Tuition begins at 10am each day and continues until 5pm with an hour’s break for lunch.

Numbers are limited to a maximum of five to ensure high quality tuition and your enjoyment

• Your piece of furniture: I can help with minor repairs but, if major repairs are needed, please get help from a professional furniture restorer before the course. If you need help finding a suitable piece of furniture, please ask for help when booking.
• Top cover upholstery fabric – if you have difficulty finding upholstery fabric, I have an old trunk full of remnant fabric you can rummage through. Alternatively, let me know your choice of fabric at least a week before your arrival so I can ensure the fabric is ordered and delivered in time by our suppliers.
• Any tools you already own (magnetic or pin hammer, pincers, pliers, tack lifter, ripping chisel) although tools will be provided for your use.
• Apron or overalls
• Dust sheet or old bedcover
• Large pair of sharp scissors
• Camera to record the stages of your work
• Notebook and pencil
• An old leather glove to protect your hand when stitching

A deposit equal to one day’s tuition is required to guarantee your booking. The full balance is due four weeks before arrival. 

If you are unable to attend, your deposit will be only refunded if you cancel more than 14 days before arrival.   Refunds will not be given if you do not attend the event booked or if you reduce the time you have booked either within 14 days before the event start date or after arrival.
